Photo Diary: Crete

Tuesday, 25 June 2019

I have been visiting Crete ever since I was a teenager, and when I found out that my girlfriend had never been, I had even more of an excuse to go back and take her to all my favourite spots.

Being a creature of habit I love revisiting places i've already been as I like the familiar surroundings, especially knowing the nice places to eat! Greek food is my all-time favourite, and Koutouloufari certainly doesn't disappoint with the amount it has to offer. Situated towards the top of the mountain above popular town Hersonissos, this little village definitely appeals to those looking for a relaxed, traditional Greek holiday. (However if you do want a bit more night life, you can find Malia just 5 miles away).

We stayed at a small apartment complex called Petra Village. This is my second time visiting the complex and although the apartments themselves are very basic, the staff and general atmosphere around Petra is 5-star in itself. Yanis and Manos are extremely friendly, welcoming, and make your stay stress free and super enjoyable. The value for money here is undeniable and considering how little time you end up spending in the actual apartment, I can't fault the mildly uncomfortable beds too much!

Food wise, there is so much to offer in Koutouloufari, and i've never had a bad meal in all the years I have been revisiting. A personal favourite of mine would have to be Mezes by Alex & Christine, (the best bolognese you will ever have) where the service and quality of food is unbeatable. Other standouts would be Oniro (tzatsiki is to die for) and Fabrica (10/10 pancakes). If you fancy the 20 minute walk down into Hersonissos, I also couldn't recommend Anatoli Taverna enough for a traditional family run business just opposite Star Beach

I absolutely adore Crete and don't doubt i'll be going back for many years to come. Enjoy the handful of photos from my holiday below, and let me know your favourite holiday spots you've revisited in the comments!
