June Favourites '18

Saturday, 30 June 2018

As you all know from my last post, May was super busy for me meaning I missed out on a monthly favourites post. So without any further delay i'm jumping into what i've been loving for the last 30 days.

BEAUTY PRODUCT: Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara.
If you're anything like me, mascara is just mascara and they all do the same thing (aka not much), so I usually just pick up whatever Superdrug have on offer when I am running low. This month I picked up Maybelline's Total Temptation Mascara and was pleasantly surprised at it actually doing something for my lashes! It's lengthening, thickening and curling, and comes in a cute pink tube - what more could you want, really?

SONG: Do It Again - No Rome.
It's horribly typical of me to enjoy another Dirty Hit signing but I just can't help myself when they throw out such great music. When the London label first previewed up and coming artist No Rome, I didn't really know what to expect, but when he dropped single Do It Again I was completely mesmerised. Being labelled by critics as "Matty Healy's muse", No Rome delivers soft R'n'B vocals on the track produced by himself and The 1975's Matty and George. In a recent interview, Matty spoke about his excitement on signing No Rome - "For pop music right now, it's so exciting to just be working with him and have so many ideas. It's just great to be around. I just fell in love with it completely. I'd never seen him, I didn't know who he was, I just flew him over to the UK... because I was too excited. And when I get that excited I know that I gotta do it - so we moved him over [from Manila], signed him to Dirty Hit, and the rest was history". It will be very easy for No Rome to be overshadowed by the success of The 1975, but he's an artist within his own right, and a bloody good one at that.

VIDEO: Bloom - Troye Sivan.
YouTube sensation turned singing superstar Troye Sivan is currently swimming in a very established career that we've all pleasantly watched grow. After the success of his debut album Blue Neighbourhood, the 23 year old is now exploring a maturer side to his sound, sexuality, and general life. He exploded back onto the scene with the incredible My My My! in January, and now Troye is continuing to break gender norms in the beautiful visuals for upcoming album title track, Bloom.

TV SHOW: A Year To Fall In Love.
I could've been super predictable and just thrown Love Island into the mix, but i'd like to save any Love Island chats for an upcoming post on the tragic passing of Sophie Gradon. So instead, i've gone for a little series on Channel 4 that I managed to binge in just two evenings. A Year To Fall In Love follows 20 singles across the UK on their dating journey, and you may remember Liam on the show when him and his dog went viral on Twitter earlier this year.

EVENT: Katy Perry @ O2 Arena, 14th June 2018.
The week of this event I had a job interview (which I got, yay!) and they asked me "what music do you like?" Now, I don't know about you, but it's such a dreaded question for me because I never know where to start. This time, however, I just told them that I had seen Alexisonfire at the start of the week and was seeing Katy Perry at the end - I think that pretty much answered their question, and makes answering the event category for this months favourites extremely difficult as they were two very different shows. Whilst I absolutely adore Alexisonfire and hadn't seen them in nearly 10 years, the sweaty over-capacity Brixton Academy meant I barely saw much and just had to guess it was Dallas Green's beautiful vocals coming through the speakers. Katy Perry, however, put on a two hour spectacle that was mesmerising to watch, even for someone not overly fussed by the 33 year old popstar. Whilst the Witness album may have been Katy's weakest, she was sure to take note and keep the audience happy with a plethora of old favourites including Hot N' Cold, I Kissed A Girl, California Girls, and even my personal favourite, Wide Awake. We had awesome seats right at the end of the catwalk, and although I wouldn't say I was a converted "Katy Cat", I definitely enjoyed the show.

Tell me what you've been loving lately in the comments!
