April Favourites '18

Monday, 30 April 2018

With fear of starting all of these favourite posts with "where did that month go?!" i'm just going to dive straight into April's edition which is packed full of good music, products, TV and things i've been loving for the last four weeks.

APP: Notes.
The most boring entry this month but the biggest life saver. As you will all know now I am moving in with my girlfriend in a few weeks which means this month has been hectic with searching and planning. I am an overly organised person that stores my life into notes and ideas, and since a recent iOS update (that was probably about 5 years ago i'm just late to the party), being able to 'pin' important notes and include images has made my planning for my move much more organised and controlled.

BEAUTY PRODUCT: Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation.
This is an old favourite of mine that has creeped back into my routine recently, so I just wanted to show it some love. This foundation used to be my holy grail until I delved off into the world of high-end and pretty much just forgot it existed. As I don't have money falling out of my ass, for everyday work life I hate to waste expensive makeup, so I keep my routine cheap and cheerful and as simple as possible to give me an extra 10 minutes in bed. This foundation retails at £6.49 and blends out effortlessly. It's down point is that it is only available in 6 shades which is no where near as inclusive as my trusty Fenty Beauty that covers a massive 40 skin tones - but if you can get this in your colour it's definitely worth a try. I use 'Ivory' and for comparison I am a 150 in Fenty Beauty, Ecru in Estee Lauder Double Wear, and NC20 in MAC. Teamed with L'OrĂ©al Paris Infallible Primer, this foundation sits beautifully on the skin and lasts well on my combination-oily skin.

SONG: One Kiss - Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa // Lovely - Billie Eilish & Khalid.
I struggled so hard with trying to choose my favourite song out of these two, so I decided to just share them both as they're really different but equally great. I can already guarantee that One Kiss is going to be the Summer anthem, and I quite literally haven't stopped singing it since it was released. If a bouncy pop dance tune is not your thing (you're weird, but whatever) then Lovely (above) surely is. It's no secret how much I love Billie Eilish, and on this release she has teamed up with the equally lovely (no pun intended) Khalid. I am absolutely obsessed with the visuals and Billie can do no wrong in my eyes. Every release is so strong and she is only 16 years old! I expect huge things upcoming.

VIDEO: Alone - Halsey.
A couple of weeks ago Paige and I were unexpectedly invited to a "secret Halsey event" in London. We had no idea what the event was, and after several tweets from the singer confirming it wasn't a show, we were left even more confused. When we got to The Box in Soho, our phones were taken away and we were handed masquerade masks. As you can imagine, we were even more bewildered, until Halsey herself entered the stage of the tiny 200 capacity room. She gave a short speech about her music and explained that we were here for the premiere of her new music video, Alone (below). I am a fan of Halsey but I must admit my heart lies with Badlands and I wasn't overly fussed by latest release, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. However, watching a music video on the big screen at top volume in a room of die-hard Halsey fans, was enough to make anyone converted. After watching the video we got to briefly meet the lady herself who was very sweet and welcoming. A really cute idea that I hope other artists take on board in the future!

ALBUM: My Dear Melancholy - The Weeknd.
The Weeknd pulled a Beyonce on us on March 30th by dropping an EP/mini album with little to no warning. My Dear Melancholy is an 8 track sob-fest that explores beautiful productions across break up tunes - I should assume Selena Gomez steered well clear of Twitter the day of it's release... It's bold, it's urban, it's soft, it's soulful. It's everything The Weeknd consistently delivers and I love it. 10/10.

TV SHOW: Jersey Shore.
CABS ARE HERE! Jersey shore is back and I am so bloody excited about it! All of the cast are now in relationships, some married, some with children, so it's definitely not the trashy Jersey Shore we're used to, but the guidos and guidettes are back after 6 years, in a luxury pad in Miami. Sammi Sweetheart is vacant so there's no more cries of "RAHN! STAHP!", but Pauly D is sure to keep traditions alive with t-shirt time and GTL. Catch Jersey Shore on Monday's on MTV, or the previous six seasons are currently available in their entirety to binge on Now TV.

EVENT: Mo Gilligan 'Coupla Cans Tour' @ Leicester Square Theatre, 6th April 2018.
Mo Gilligan aka 'Mo The Comedian' turned his internet legacy into a tour that has seen him play so many shows that I literally cannot count. I first saw him back in October when he played his first big headline at Proud Camden, and I couldn't resist going again when he announced a residency at Leicester Square Theatre this year. I find stand up comedians can be very hit and miss with their humour, but Mo is so relateable and modern that it's hard to not leave his shows without a stitch and tears in your eyes (in a good way)! Drake is a fan, I bumped into Stormzy at one of his shows, and he's just bagged himself his own show on Channel 4, so you can expect to see more of him soon. In the meantime you can check out his skits on Instagram. KAVANI!
