Photo Diary: Budapest Day Two

Wednesday, 14 March 2018

On the morning of our second day in Budapest we trawled around the city looking for somewhere to get a breakfast that sounded vaguely familiar. We settled on Inspired in Gozsdu Udvar where the "English Breakfast" consisted of beans and salad greens - an interesting concoction.

After breakfast we hopped on the Metro (another thing that reminds me of New York) down to Széchenyi Thermal Bath. We didn't go in but nosed around the building and walked around the nearby Vajdahunyad Castle. We had a beer overlooking the lake before heading back to Gozsdu Udvar for lunch at Spiler. After our burgers we had a traditional desert called Somloi which is an Hungarian trifle of sponge cake, cream, walnuts and raisins.

We headed back to our Air B'n'B for a well-needed nap before a night visiting another ruin bar; Instant. After just 4 vodkas I was pretty merry so we headed back to Spiler for a late dinner with my colleague Vivien who is from Budapest and happened to be in the city at the same time as us! After a stint of feeling sick because I am a complete and utter lightweight, I gave up on the alcohol and was ready for bed.
