Alma - Heavy Rules

Tuesday, 6 March 2018

I've been blogging again for less than a month and I think i've managed to waggle Alma's name into about 3 blog posts already. It's safe to say i'm borderline obsessed. Since I first heard Chasing Highs I was mesmerised by the catchy pop beats and soft vocals, and was frantically searching See Tickets to see this girl live.

The 22 year old Finnish musician teamed up with French Montana for Phases in October last year (which was directed by Charli XCX), and this year she has dropped her first mixtape. Heavy Rules features 6 brand new songs and includes features from MØ, Tove Styrke, and Kiiara.

Opening with drunk party banger Legend and ending on the bouncy Chit Chat, the mixtape is consecutive and flows with such ease that it's hard to believe this girl hasn't even dropped a full-length album yet. Inbetween these two massive hits are further back-to-back bangers. Dance For Me delivers dance-pop with MØ, and then Fake Gucci is a modern day love song that sees Alma croon 'if you want want some luxury there is not much I can give but fake Gucci and my love' which i'm sure most of us millennials can relate to.

Branded by MTV as 'Pop Perfection', I quite honestly couldn't agree more - Heavy Rules is laced with edge but exudes 21st century pop so wonderfully. Since it's release last Friday I literally haven't listened to anything else, and i'm so excited to see if the same vibes can be portrayed live when Alma hits London's Heaven in May. She is 100% one to look out for.

Get the Heavy Rules mixtape here, and check out Alma's tour dates here.
